In 2013, an enhanced design center will provide a work environment that state-of-the-art for more than 200 employees are responsible for GM's global vehicle programs. It will support the organization's expertise in vehicle exterior and interior styling, digital design and engineering studio, which has resulted in successful Chevrolet Spark, Aveo and Cruze models.
General Motors today announced it will expand its global design center in Incheon, Korea, doubling the size of the facility to incorporate a new studio models, and the display space for creative work.
Expanded design center will remain focused on visualization technology and sophisticated design, which resulted in vehicles striking Chevrolet Miray concept introduced last year and exhibited at global auto shows around the world.
Its construction will comply with the GM industry's leading environmental design practices, including the use of innovative technologies related to energy materials, water and recycling.
GM Vice President Global Design Ed Welburn said, "GM Korea Design Center plays a vital role in the organization of GM Global Design. Expansion will create an environment for team members to dream, create and develop design strategies for the future of GM's product portfolio."
GM Korea is one of only seven operations design, engineering and manufacturing are fully integrated within GM. It has invested an average of more than KRW 1 trillion every year in Korea for 10 years. It will invest an additional EUR 1.5 billion in vehicle engineering and facilities this year.
GM Korea President and CEO Sergio Rocha said, "This significant investment is a reflection of strong design expertise GM in Korea and the important work done here for the family of General Motors global. Our extended facility will give us an edge over the competition as we continue to develop exciting new vehicle for the world."
